The Secretary birds are one of my favorites at the San Diego Zoo. This was a January, 2013 visit and the two birds were very active.
Technical: Canon 5D Mark III with an EF 100-400 L lens. Shot with a high ISO (1600) with the rig on a tripod. Post processing was limited to levels adjustments of the raw images then cropping to 1600 x 1200 pixels and some noise reduction (Nik).
Challenges: These birds are inside a fenced enclosure so all shots are through a wire mesh. If the birds get too close to the wire, you can't make it disappear. The older bird (which has red around its eye) was much more active. I'd like to have gotten more shots of the younger bird.
